Environment
The housing sector accounts for about a third of the European Union’s total greenhouse gas emissions. It is therefore a key sector in achieving climate targets and carbon neutrality by 2050.
Aware of its responsibilities, Edilians Group is committed to significantly reducing its CO2 emissions by implementing a plan to decarbonise its business and continuously improve its energy efficiency.
Our decarbonisation plan
Since 2021, assessment of the Group’s carbon footprint (Scopes 1 and 2) has enabled us to outline a decarbonisation plan based on continuous improvement, innovation and technological breakthroughs. The plan includes a major investment programme aimed at reducing our consumption of natural gas and gradually substituting this fossil fuel with decarbonised alternative energies.
-30% reduction in direct carbon emissions (Scope 1) per tonne of tiles produced (compared with 2021).
Innovating and optimising our manufacturing processes
To reduce our energy footprint, we plan to decarbonise our manufacturing processes via three levers:
- Improve the energy performance of our facilities by optimising operation and training staff;
- Transform processes by gradually deploying proven techniques across our 17 manufacturing sites in Europe;
- Explore innovative manufacturing technologies and processes.
Jointly developing energies for the future
To eventually replace natural gas with alternative energies, we are committed to focusing on research into alternative energy sources such as biogas, bioenergy, biomass and green hydrogen. We are striving for solutions that can be industrialised by 2030, to make our industry more sustainable.
Moving up a gear with Ceritherm
In 2023, Edilians Group acquired Ceritherm, a French manufacturer of industrial kilns and expert in innovative thermal equipment. As an engineering company, Ceritherm has reinforced Edilians Group’s technical expertise and capacity for innovation in decarbonising its manufacturing facilities. As a result, between October 2023 and November 2024 five decarbonisation projects were launched at three manufacturing sites in order to improve firing and drying processes.
”"Ceritherm has developed relevant, pioneering technologies in which we believe. With this acquisition, we are hoping to develop our own expertise in research and development while stepping up the deployment of industrial solutions designed to decarbonise our operations."
